UniProt Comments for Cybrd1
CYBRD1: Ferric-chelate reductase that reduces Fe(3+) to Fe(2+). Present at the brush border of duodenal enterocytes where it probably reduces dietary Fe(3+) thereby facilitating its transport into the mucosal cells. Uses ascorbate as electron donor. May be involved in extracellular ascorbate recycling in erythrocyte membranes. May also act as a ferrireductase in airway epithelial cells. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.
Protein type: EC 1.-.-.-; Membrane protein, integral; Membrane protein, multi-pass; Motility/polarity/chemotaxis; Oxidoreductase; Transporter; Transporter, ion channel; Transporter, iron
Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 3q22
Cellular Component: brush border membrane
Molecular Function: ferric-chelate reductase activity; oxidoreductase activity
Biological Process: response to iron ion
Research Articles on Cybrd1
1. Data suggest that expression of Cybrd1 in intestinal mucosa can be regulated by dietary factors; here, expression of Cybrd1 in mucosa of duodenum is up-regulated by prebiotic supplement, inulin, in iron-deficiency anemia.
