The concentration gradients of the kit standards or positive controls render a theoretical kit detection range in biological research samples containing INHA. The ELISA analytical biochemical technique of the MBS2086971 kit is based on INHA antibody-INHA antigen interactions (immunosorbency) and an HRP colorimetric detection system to detect INHA antigen targets in samples. The ELISA Kit is designed to detect native, not recombinant, INHA. Appropriate sample types may include undiluted body fluids and/or tissue homogenates, secretions. Quality control assays assessing reproducibility identified the intra-assay CV (%) and inter-assay CV(%).

This assay employs the competitive inhibition enzyme immunoassay technique. A monoclonal antibody specific to Inhibin A (INHA) has been pre-coated onto a microplate. A competitive inhibition reaction is launched between biotin labeled Inhibin A (INHA) and unlabeled Inhibin A (INHA) (Standards or samples) with the pre-coated antibody specific to Inhibin A (INHA). After incubation the unbound conjugate is washed off. Next, avidin conjugated to Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to each microplate well and incubated. The amount of bound HRP conjugate is reverse proportional to the concentration of Inhibin A (INHA) in the sample. After addition of the substrate solution, the intensity of color developed is reverse proportional to the concentration of Inhibin A (INHA) in the sample.

This gene encodes a member of the TGF-beta (transforming growth factor-beta) superfamily of proteins. The encoded preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate multiple peptide products, including the alpha subunit of the inhibin A and B protein complexes. These complexes negatively regulate follicle stimulating hormone secretion from the pituitary gland. Inhibins have also been implicated in regulating numerous cellular processes including cell proliferation, apoptosis, immune response and hormone secretion. Mutations in this gene may be associated with male infertility and premature ovarian failure in female human patients. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2016]

INHA: Inhibins and activins inhibit and activate, respectively, the secretion of follitropin by the pituitary gland. Inhibins/activins are involved in regulating a number of diverse functions such as hypothalamic and pituitary hormone secretion, gonadal hormone secretion, germ cell development and maturation, erythroid differentiation, insulin secretion, nerve cell survival, embryonic axial development or bone growth, depending on their subunit composition. Inhibins appear to oppose the functions of activins. Belongs to the TGF-beta family.
