NCBI Summary for ADAMTSL4
This gene is a member of ADAMTS (a disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motifs)-like gene family and encodes a protein with seven thrombospondin type 1 repeats. The thrombospondin type 1 repeat domain is found in many proteins with diverse
biological functions including cellular adhesion, angiogenesis, and patterning of the developing nervous system. Alternate transcriptional splice variants, encoding different isoforms, have been characterized. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2014]
UniProt Comments for ADAMTSL4
TSRC1: Positive regulation of apoptosis. May facilitate FBN1 microfibril biogenesis. Defects in ADAMTSL4 are a cause of autosomal recessive isolated ectopia lentis (ARI-EL). ARI-EL is a rare condition characterized by partial or complete displacement of the lens from its space resulting from defective zonule formation. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.
Protein type: Secreted, signal peptide; Secreted
Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 1q21.3
Cellular Component: endoplasmic reticulum lumen
Molecular Function: protease binding; protein binding
Biological Process: positive regulation of apoptosis
Disease: Ectopia Lentis 2, Isolated, Autosomal Recessive; Ectopia Lentis Et Pupillae
Research Articles on ADAMTSL4
1. ADAMTSL4 mutations are the main cause for isolated ectopia lentis with an early onset of symptoms and possible severe ocular complications.
