developmentally regulated RNA binding protein (RBP) which acts as a translational enhancer by driving specific mRNAs to polysomes and thus increasing the efficiency of protein synthesis. LIN28 (26 kDa) is necessary for selectively inhibiting the cleavage processing of pre-let-7 mRNAs in embryonic cells, thus allowing maintenance of embryonic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem (IPS) cells.
